Welcome to Campaign Kernow

Current total pledged: £12,075

Campaign Kernow is an organisation set up to give Cornwall’s sporting youth and future generations, the opportunity to participate on the international stage. We seek £50,000 by way of pledges to prove that Cornwall has a legitimate right to representation as a Duchy and Commonwealth Nation, in future Commonwealth Games competitions which are held every four years. It should also be noted that not all monies will be needed at once, but in stage payments.

We seek a judicial review on the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) decision of refusal, and have great confidence in our legal position headed by Solicitor and Notary Public Mr.John Kirkhope, who at present, is taking a Ph.D. at Plymouth University into the Laws of the Duchy of Cornwall. Mr Kirkhope is regarded as the foremost expert on the Laws and Constitution of Cornwall in the World and his research has very much strengthened our claim.

Should our target not be reached by the 31st of December 2010, Cash donations to date, under £5, will go to the Clic House Children’s Cancer Unit at Treliske Hospital, whilst all others will be returned and the campaign closed.

Please Do Not send money until requested.

Thank you.

Campaigners are considering legal action to allow Cornwall to be represented independently at the Commonwealth Games. Kernow Trust, formerly the Cornwall Commonwealth Games Association, had an application refused in 2004. It is now considering submitting a judicial review against the Commonwealth Games Federation. Games organisers called it a “frivolous” act and said they would oppose any legal action. Campaigners are hoping that Cornwall can be represented at the Games in Glasgow in 2014.

They cite a precedent as the summer Olympics of 1908 in which Cornwall competed in rugby.

Campaigner Graham Hart told BBC News:

“Cornwall is a duchy, not part of England and we have every right to be there.”
“England is no more a part of Cornwall than Cornwall is a part of England.”
